The Dallas Cowboys will take on the defending Super Bowl champions, the Seattle Seahawks, in their preseason opener on Saturday. They’ll be plenty to look at, including first-round rookies Caleb Downs and Malachi Lawrence getting some reps.

Quinnen Williams got signed to an extension this week, and the culture aspect with the Cowboys has grown on him immensely. Plus, quarterback Dak Prescott, and several teammates, are fully embracing the organization’s quest for a Super Bowl.

Five things to watch in Dallas Cowboys’ preseason opener Saturday night – Nick Harris, Fort Worth Star-Telegram

The Cowboys have had an eventful training camp so far in Oxnard, California. Here’s what to look for in their preseason opener against the Seahawks.

While the status of the No. 11 overall pick, Caleb Downs, is still unofficial, according to head coach Brian Schottenheimer, the expectation is that he and fellow first-round pick Malachi Lawrence will get some burn at some point in Saturday’s game. (Of note, 2025 first-round pick Tyler Booker did not play in the preseason opener last season.)

Downs has had an impressive camp, as he has slotted in with the first-team defense at the nickel cornerback spot and has also seen increased responsibilities on the back end at safety with the second team while that room works through some injuries. Additionally, Downs has seen some punt return work in camp.

Position-by-position takeaways from Cowboys’ first unofficial depth chart – Jerry Trotta, The Landry Hat

Dallas has gotten some strong performances during training camp from young players and veterans. Here’s a break down of each position group after the first unofficial depth chart.

Dak Prescott | Joe Milton | Sam Howell

Don’t read too much into Milton being listed ahead of Howell. The depth chart reads, “Joe Milton OR Sam Howell,” signifying the backup quarterback battle doesn’t have a clear leader.

From afar, it seems Milton has a slight upper hand, but both QBs have struggled to protect the football. Saturday’s preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks should provide more clarity.

Dallas Cowboys Culture Is Giving Quinnen Williams Alabama Flashbacks – Zach Dimmitt, SI.com

One of the most important things for any player is to feel comfortable with the organization he’s with. Quinnen Williams has found that in Dallas, and it reminds him of his college days.

Williams and his teammates have been working under new defensive coordinator Christian Parker this offseason in order to get the defense turned around after a dreadful 2025 season.

According to Williams, the approach is night and day from last year, and it reminds him of what the culture was like at Alabama.

“Everybody has the same mindset when it comes down to getting better and winning and doing everything we can possibly do to win. Honestly, the last time I kinda had that feeling was at Bama,” Williams said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic.

Sean McVay makes simple but telling assessment about the 2026 Dallas Cowboys, and he was quickly proven right – Mauricio Rodriguez, AtoZ Sports

The Cowboys needed some serious upgrades to their roster in 2026. They did just that, and Rams’ head coach Sean McKay took notice during their joint scrimmage.

McVay on 2026 Cowboys roster

Speaking on the Up & Adams! Show, Schottennheimer revealed what McVay told him even before practice started.

“It was funny talking to Sean before,” Schottenheimer said. “He said, ‘Man, Schotty, you guys have adjusted your roster a little bit,’ and some different names that he didn’t get a chance to go against last year.”

Dak Prescott Trying to Manifest Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl in Unique Way – Randy Gurzi, SI.com

Like every season, no matter the state of the team, Dallas has Super Bowl expectations circling around them. Quarterback Dak Prescott is embracing it full throttle.

Dak Prescott isn’t shying away from the Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl drought.

The veteran quarterback is entering his 11th season in the league and despite plenty of regular season success, the Cowboys are just 2-5 in the playoffs with Prescott starting. With his playoff struggles added in, the franchise is now sitting at 30 years since they made it to the Super Bowl. That hasn’t stopped Dak from trying to manifest a title for America’s Team.

Cowboys save $24m in cap space, details of Quinnen Williams new contract – K.D. Drummond, Cowboys Wire

Dallas able to get defensive tackle Quinnen Williams signed to a lucrative extension earlier this week. Here’s how his deal helps the Cowboys financially.

The details of the three-year extension for star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams are now public. ESPN reporter Todd Archer has gathered the details of the deal recently signed by the Dallas Cowboys‘ man in the middle, and it shows a rather savvy approach to keeping a key figure in town for the foreseeable future.

Williams had two years and $47.25 million remaining on the contract that was acquired in a trade with the New York Jets (Cowboys sent their 2026 second-round pick and one of their two, 2027 first-round picks). He and the team added three years, at $105.9 million, making the total deal for five years at $153.15 million.
