Is it possible that the Phillies were able to put up a crooked number in an inning? It seems that the corn of Iowa has added some punch to the offense as they used a seven run fifth inning to power their way to another victory over the Twins, this one in Minnesota.

After coming back from the Field of Dreams game/event that was still the talk of the baseball world, the Phillies got off to a good, yet frustrating, start to this game. In the second inning, they loaded the bases off Twins pitcher Connor Prielipp with no outs thanks to a single by Luis Arraez, double by Alec Bohm and a walk to Edmundo Sosa, yet could only push across a measly sacrifice fly J.T. Realmuto to give them one run. The way Jesus Luzardo was throwing on the night, it looked like that run could hold up, but in the fifth inning, things got good.

Realmuto singled to start the inning, then was followed by two quick outs. From there, back to back walks to Trea Turner and Bryce Harper loaded the bases. Arraez walked to get the first run, then was followed by an RBI single from Bohm that scored another. Sosa followed with two more RBI on a single to bring Bryson Stott to the plate.

Stott would deliver.

That’s the crooked number this offense needed and broke the game open.

In the sixth inning, the Twins started to make a little noise by getting back to back doubles from Ryan Jeffers and Royce Lewis to get a run, yet Luzardo locked up the rest of the lineup to prevent further damage.

From there, the game was pretty much ho hum. The bullpen locked down the Twins’ lineup for the rest of the day while another run was pushed across by the Phillies off old friend Jeff Hoffman thanks to another double from Bohm and another sacrifice fly by Realmuto.

The star of the game was Bohm. His five hit game was the first of his career, and gave him another solid day in what has been a decent stretch for him since the All-Star Break.
