
WILLIAMSPORT, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Williamsport Crosscutters defeated the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 5-3, winning their second straight game and third of their last five.
Williamsport led one to nothing in the bottom of the second when Jake Zitella singled to center. Loyalsock Township Grad Nick Barone scores to make it 2-0 Williamsport.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Cutters led 2-1. Trey Wells skies one to right and would get a two-run triple to right. Wells gave Williamsport a 4-1 lead over Mahoning Valley.
The Cutters’ starting pitcher David Case looked strong through five as he gets the batter looking to end the fifth. He would allow three runs in five and third innings, striking out six along the way.
Williamsport loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth. Wells makes contact with the pitch and bounces one off the pitcher’s leg. The Scrappers cannot make the play as Chris Stanfield scores one run, extending the lead, 5-1.
The Scrappers would get two runs back but would not be enough. Williamsport defeats Mahoning Valley, 5-3.
