Cubs news: Chicago reveals reason for Kevin Gausman's exit from White Sox start appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The Chicago Cubs may have won the second game of their three-game set against in-city rival Chicago White Sox, 4-3, but they left the game with some injury concerns after Kevin Gausman had to exit the game prematurely. Gausman, who was acquired by the Cubs at the trade deadline, had to exit after just 4.1 innings of work.

The good news is that it doesn’t seem as though Gausman suffered an injury that would keep him out for an extended period of time. According to the Cubs’ official account on X, the 35-year-old starting pitcher sustained a cramp in his left hand, which forced him to exit after throwing 86 pitches.

Gausman, before leaving the game, allowed three earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five. The Cubs were in a losing position at the time of the 35-year-old’s exit, but they once again tapped into their clutch gene and earned another walk-off victory.

This time, it was Alex Bregman who gave the Cubs the win. He stepped into the plate with the score tied at 3-3 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, and he came through with a run-scoring single. This was quite the exhilarating follow-up to last night’s walk-off victory, which came via a home run from Pete Crow-Armstrong in extra innings.

The White Sox were wary of Crow-Armstrong this time around, so with one out in the bottom of the ninth, they decided to intentionally put him on base. This almost worked, as Seiya Suzuki popped up for the second out of the inning. But then Bregman wasted no time, as he hit a first-pitch fastball straight up the middle to drive in the winning run in the subsequent at-bat.

The Cubs must be on cloud nine at the moment, and it should help that their big trade deadline acquisition in Gausman did not suffer too serious of an injury. After all, they expect Gausman to be a major contributor in a potential push for the World Series.
