FC Dallas have taken a cheeky swipe at Austin FC co-owner Matthew McConaughey and comedian Shane Gillis after their latest Copa Tejas clash ended with the visitors celebrating a 2-1 victory.
The pair were shown looking visibly disappointed during the match at Q2 Stadium, giving Dallas the perfect opportunity to have some fun on social media.
McConaughey, Austin FC’s ‘Minister of Culture’, was in attendance alongside Gillis, who was wearing a Philadelphia Eagles hat. Their expressions after the final whistle quickly became one of the more amusing moments from the rivalry match.
Dallas did not waste much time before turning the moment into a post of their own.

FC Dallas turn Austin FC defeat into a joke at Matthew McConaughey and Shane Gillis’ expense
The club shared a picture of the pair looking glum on X with a simple caption: ‘tough scene’.
It was a straightforward troll, but the timing made it even better. Dallas had just beaten their Texas rivals 2-1, leaving Austin FC with another disappointing result in what has been a difficult MLS campaign.
Lalas Abubakar and Petar Musa scored for FC Dallas, while Ervin Torres scored Austin’s only goal of the night.
The defeat left Austin FC 14th in the Western Conference with a 4-10-5 record and 17 points. They had also won only once in their previous eight MLS matches.
That made Dallas’ post particularly easy to understand.
McConaughey has long been one of the most recognisable figures around Austin FC, while Gillis’ appearance added another familiar face to the crowd.
For Dallas, though, neither could escape the result.
Austin had also reached the Leagues Cup knockout stage just three days earlier after beating Club América in a shootout. However, that momentum failed to carry over into the regular season against their Texas rivals.
The Verde and Black now face a quick turnaround against Seattle on Wednesday, with 15 MLS matches still remaining in their season.
After Dallas got the bragging rights, McConaughey and Gillis’ miserable faces gave the club one more reason to enjoy the victory.
