Training camp stars emerge every summer. No one who watched a few exciting weeks of Paul Turner needs to be reminded of that, but it's also true that some guys will flash for a few Philadelphia Eagles practices before fading into the background. Others force their way into conversations that eventually become impossible to ignore. Second-year receiver Darius Cooper appears to be heading toward the second category. The Eagles added Cooper as an undrafted rookie last offseason, and he eventually battled his way onto the roster. This time around, he entered camp where there was no shortage of intrigue at wide receiver, but much of the attention had shifted to newcomers like Hollywood Brown, Elijah Moore, and Dontayvion Wicks. Rookie Makai Lemon was a major talking point, but unfortunately, the narrative has shifted to a hamstring injury that temporarily slowed his progress. Meanwhile, Cooper has quietly continued doing what he's done since arriving in Philadelphia: making plays and earning trust. What began as local buzz has now grown into something larger. Darius Cooper continues building momentum with the Eagles It's seemingly no fluke. Cooper has been one of the most frequently mentioned players in training camp reports throughout the summer. Whether discussing chemistry with Jalen Hurts, contested catches, or reliability in traffic, reporters covering the team have repeatedly highlighted Cooper's development. Now that praise is reaching a national audience. Recently, ESPN's Tim McManus offered another set of camp notes and identified Cooper as Philadelphia's top performer through the early stages of training camp.

"No one has made more of their opportunities than Cooper, the 2025 undrafted free agent out of Tarleton State. He came out of nowhere to make the team as a rookie and is making another strong push this summer, standing out in a deep group... Cooper has stepped in and has developed good rapport with QB Jalen Hurts while showing off strong hands and a willingness to go over the middle."

That's significant praise considering the competition surrounding him. The Eagles spent the offseason adding talent to the receiver room following A.J. Brown's departure, yet Cooper continues generating some of the strongest reviews on the roster. Those traits McManus mentions tend to earn quarterbacks' trust quickly, and trust often determines who sees opportunities once the regular season begins. The timing couldn't be better. With DeVonta Smith and Makai Lemon missing portions of camp because of hamstring injuries, additional reps became available. Cooper didn't simply fill those snaps. He capitalized on them. Practice after practice, his name continues appearing in reports alongside some of Philadelphia's most established offensive contributors. Still, everyone knows that doesn't guarantee anything once roster decisions arrive. The Eagles still boast one of the NFL's deepest receiver competitions. Hollywood Brown, Elijah Moore, Johnny Wilson, Britain Covey, and others will continue to battle for roles and roster spots. Still, the conversation surrounding Cooper has noticeably changed. Earlier this summer, the question seemed to be whether he could make the roster. Now, observers are beginning to wonder how large a role he might carve out if he does. That's a meaningful shift. It's also one that rarely happens by accident. For now, Cooper's strongest supporters remain inside the NovaCare Complex, but if the praise continues coming from national outlets as well, the rest of the football world may soon be paying attention too.
