David Horseman has been appointed Arsenal’s new Under-21s head coach, with the club handing him responsibility for continuing the development of the next generation of first-team players.
Horseman steps into the role after impressing within the academy and will work closely with Academy Director Pascal de Maesschalck as Arsenal look to maintain the strong pathway from their youth sides into Mikel Arteta’s first team.
Horseman has previously held coaching positions at first-team and academy level at Southampton, Watford, Bristol Rovers, Forest Green Rovers and Manchester United.
De Maesschalck said Horseman had shown a clear understanding of how to get the best out of young players.
“We are extremely pleased to appoint David as our Under-21s head coach,” he said.
“He has consistently demonstrated a clear understanding of how to manage our talented young players, both as individuals and as a team.
“With his experience, positive mindset and drive, he will continue to help create the perfect environment to realise our objectives and help our young players to succeed.”
Horseman said he was “delighted and privileged” to take charge of the Under-21s and acknowledged the coaches who have previously held the position.
“I’m absolutely delighted and privileged to be appointed Arsenal Under-21s head coach, following in the footsteps of so many outstanding coaches who have held this position before me,” he said.
“It’s a huge honour to contribute to the continued success of an academy with such a proud history of developing players for our first team and the wider game.”
Horseman also thanked Arteta, Albert Stuivenberg, de Maesschalck, Luke Hobbs and Ken Gillard for their support throughout the appointment process.
“I’m incredibly grateful and excited for what lies ahead,” he added.
