NEW BOSTON – Owen DeLano is getting a little bit of a break this fall.

The New Boston Huron football coaches have decided he doesn’t need to play safety any more.

That leaves the seniors with just six positions he needed to learn.

DeLano will be the Owen-of-all-trades for the Chiefs, playing cornerback, wide receiver, running back and quarterback along while handling kicking and punting duties.

“He’s a phenomenal athlete,” Huron coach Tom Hoover said.

Will DeLano ever come off the field?

“Yeah, we’ll get him out of there for a few plays on defense,” Hoover said.

DeLano will line up wherever he is needed.

“It’s not up to me. It’s up to the coaches,” he said.

He loves being used in a multitude of ways.

“It’s a lot of work, but I’ve done it my whole life,” he said of learning many positions. I love the competition and competing all over the field. I just love being out there with my brothers.”

Does DeLano anticipate any breaks?

“I might get a couple of plays off,” he said. “But I want to be out there. I am pretty well conditioned.”

Hoover and DeLano both expect Huron to be more competitive in 2026 after finishing 3-6 a year ago.

“We have a lot more experience this year,” Hoover said. “Last year we were really young. I hope that experience pays off.”

Huron had just five seniors on the roster last year and some of them did not play much.

“We had five sophomores, two freshmen and 15 juniors on the roster last year,” Hoover said. “And six of the nine teams we played went to the playoffs.”

In 20 years at Allen Park, Hoover can only remember having two sophomores on the varsity. He more than doubled that total last season.

“With more maturity, I’m confident that we will be better,” Hoover said. “We should have a good offense.”

University of Toledo baseball recruit Cash Moczydlowsky will lead the offense with DeLano seeing some time at quarterback as well.

Moczydlowsky threw for 850 yards and ran for 533 last fall.

Assistant coach Steve Robb talks to the offense during a training camp practice for the New Boston Huron football team on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026.

“We had a lot of juniors last year,” Moczydlowsky said. “We will be more senior heavy this year.”

He expects the offense to be balanced.

“We’re ready to pound the rock, but we’ll sling it, too,” he said. “I like to run it and throw it.”

Jamil Brown, who led Huron with 679 rushing yards a year ago, figures to be the top ballcarrier again.

Noah Herron will lead what should be an improved defense from his linebacker spot and also will see time on the offensive line.

Assistant coach Dave Delano helps Kane Caswell adjust his helmet during a training camp practice for the New Boston Huron football team on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026.

When he looked around the field last season he didn’t see a lot of seniors.“Maybe two,” he said.

He likes what he has seen so far in training camp.

“We are getting better every day,” he said. “We should be improved.”
