Prior to their Sunday training camp practice, the Detroit Lions made a couple of transactions. As previously reported, the Lions signed running back Trayveon Williams. However, they also signed cornerback Ekow Boye-Doe.

In order to make room for both players, the Lions waived both Kye Robichaux and safety Loren Strickland with injury designations. Robichaux (broken foot) and Strickland (lower body) suffered their injuries in Thursday’s preseason game. They will now head to waivers, and assuming no one signs them in the following 24 hours, both will revert back to Detroit’s injured/reserve list. If they stay there, their seasons are over. However, Detroit could opt to give both players an injury settlement payout, which would give them an opportunity to rejoin the team later in 2026.

As for the new cornerback, Boye-Doe is coming off a short stint in the UFL. With the DC Defenders, he played in nine games, logged 142 defensive snaps, earned a 74.9 PFF grade, and was credited with four pass breakups. He was also active on special teams, logging an additional 138 snaps on that unit.

Prior to the UFL, Boye-Doe spent time with the Chiefs, Giants, and Cardinals. He only made six game appearances in the NFL, all in 2023 as a rookie in Kansas City. He played 13 defensive snaps and 84 special teams snaps that year.

At 6-foot, 177 pounds, Boye-Doe is tall but slim for the cornerback position. The Lions are relatively crowded at the cornerback position with Rock Ya-Sin, D.J. Reed, Ennis Rakestraw, Nick Whiteside, Roger McCreary, and Khalil Dorsey. That said, Whiteside missed Sunday’s practice, and the Lions may want more depth to play in the upcoming preseason games. However, Boye-Doe will have to catch on quick to make an impression. Roster cuts day is less than two weeks away (Aug. 30).
