LIV Golf in Michigan is officially off. LIV Golf announced Monday what long has been expected — that it is canceling its season-ending team championship tournament which was set to be played on The Cardinal at Saint John's Resort in Plymouth Township. There have been several signs in recent weeks that the Michigan tournament was doomed amid the league's ongoing funding crisis, and last week LIV Golf finally (and quietly) stopped selling tickets for the Michigan stop.
How do you get a refund for Michigan LIV Golf tickets? LIV Golf said Monday that fans who purchased tickets to the Michigan tournament will receive a refund. A LIV Golf spokesperson told The News that it will communicate directly with fans who bought tickets to provide additional details on how refunds will be issued. It's not clear how many tickets were sold for the Michigan stop, scheduled for Aug. 27-30. Last year, The Cardinal drew more than 40,000 fans over three days of the LIV Golf stop. This year's tournament was to be four days of competition. LIV Golf now will decide its individual and team championships this week in Indianapolis, concluding its 2026 season. It he been scheduled to end the season with the team championship in Michigan for a second consecutive year. What's the future for pro golf in Michigan? The official cancellation of the LIV Golf stop in Michigan is the latest blow for major pro golf in the state. Earlier this month, the PGA Tour's Rocket Classic was played for the eighth and final time at Detroit Golf Club. And later this month, Aug. 28-30 (the same weekend LIV Golf was supposed to be here), the PGA Tour Champions' Ally Challenge could be played for the last time at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc. It's the final year of the current contract for that tournament, and no extension has been announced. Last week, the LPGA's Dow Championship also announced that it was being moved from its traditional June or July date on the calendar to the tour's fall schedule, to be played Sept. 30 through Oct. 3 in 2027. tpaul@detroitnews.com @tonypaul1984 This article originally appeared on The Detroit News: Did you buy tickets for LIV Golf in Michigan?
