The Los Angeles Dodgers have won back-to-back World Series titles and are once again chasing the pitching depth necessary to make history with a third consecutive championship. But even a roster as deep as theirs can be tested when injuries begin to pile up.

On Sunday, the team lost All-Star starter Justin Wrobleski as they remain without Shohei Ohtani able to take the mound.

“There was no indication that Wrobleski suffered an injury during the game, though the team may reveal more details as he undergoes tests,” AJ Eustace reported for MLB Trade Rumors. “In any case, the IL stint will give Wrobleski the opportunity to rest for a few turns through the rotation.”

The Dodgers can likely afford some pitching setbacks given their depth, but the latest injury stint adds another layer of urgency facing a staff that has already required plenty of maneuvering this season. And while the Dodgers continue to navigate those changes, a former World Series standout pitcher has now found his own path back into professional baseball—and it comes with a division rival.

Former Los Angeles Dodgers Standout Lands With Hated Division Rival

Brent Honeywell Jr. has agreed to a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Jordan Shusterman, bringing one of the more memorable Dodgers contributors this season to a fierce National League West division rival to continue his career.

Honeywell last pitched in the majors during the Dodgers' 2024 postseason run. After spending all of 2025 out of affiliated baseball, the veteran right-hander is now attempting to work his way back to the majors with a franchise that has become one of Los Angeles' most significant National League rivals.

Now Dodgers fans could be tempted to jeer Honeywell, shortly after he became a postseason hero.

“The 2024 campaign was the best of Honeywell’s injury-plagued career to date,” Eustace reported. “He put up a 2.63 ERA in 37 2/3 innings that year, 34 1/3 of them coming with the Dodgers… The Dodgers non-tendered him during the offseason, and Honeywell did not appear in affiliated ball in 2025.”

Los Angeles Dodgers’ ‘One-Of-One’ Clubhouse Favorite Continues MLB Career After Gap

Honeywell's Dodgers tenure was short, but it clearly left an impression inside the clubhouse.

“He’s just special,” former teammate Daniel Hudson said, according to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya. “He’s one of one.”

Hudson emphasized Honeywell’s unique personality shortly after he became an unlikely innings eater in a key Game 6 of the Dodgers’ National League pennant series, then grabbed headlines with a passionate interview.

“The Dodgers had enough arms to win Game 6, and the pennant,” Ardaya wrote. “In the postgame hysteria, including a now-viral interview, it was Honeywell who earned his share of the credit.”

Honeywell will now try to craft some similar moments with a contending Padres team.
