The Los Angeles Dodgers will place struggling closer Edwin Diaz on the injured list and promote Triple-A right-hander Emmet Sheehan, according to separate reports Tuesday.
In 95.1 innings across 20 starts for the Dodgers this season, Sheehan had a 5.29 ERA. He allowed five runs on six hits over 2.2 innings against the Boston Red Sox on Aug. 2. He was optioned the next day.
Ostensibly he will give the Dodgers some length out of the bullpen for the middle game of their three-game series against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Diaz was one of the best closers in MLB before he signed a three-year, $69 million contract with the Dodgers in December 2025. He’s posted an 11.85 ERA and blown four saves this season.
Diaz, 32, has been limited to 16 appearances this season because of a procedure to remove loose bodies from his right elbow. The right-hander missed more than two months rehabbing that injury, only to allow 11 runs in 6.2 innings since his return.
