The Los Angeles Dodgers are currently without both of their starting catchers in Will Smith and Dalton Rushing. While Smith is nearing a return from the 60-day injured list as he manages a neck issue, Rushing will likely not catch again this year due to a partial UCL tear in his right elbow.
The Dodgers addressed the lack of depth at the position at the trade deadline, reuniting with two familiar faces in Ben Rortvedt and Hunter Fedduccia, both of whom have appeared in the organization before.

However, as for the third man up, the Dodgers decided to make a change. If either Rortvedt or Fedduccia suffered an injury or underperformed and had to be designated for assignment, Chuckie Robinson would have been the next man up until Thursday.
Now that will not be the case, as the Dodgers signed Chadwick Tromp to a minor-league deal and released Robinson, according to reporters Alex Freedman and Bill Plunkett.
This is not the first time Robinson has been released by Los Angeles, and it certainly feels like he is running out of chances to be a contributor. Over the past two seasons, the 31-year-old has appeared in just nine games and collected only two hits across 28 plate appearances.
Tromp offers a bit more experience should the Dodgers need to dip deeper into their system. He has suited up for both the Atlanta Braves and Baltimore Orioles this year, and while he has managed just eight hits in 51 plate appearances, it is still a more substantial track record than what Robinson provided.
