Doku: It’s a privilege to have signed my new City contract

Jérémy Doku has described signing his new Manchester City contract as a privilege – and says he is at the perfect club as he seeks to secure even more silverware.

Men's Team

Doku signs new contract extension

The exciting Belgian winger has put pen to paper on a new five-year contract – one that will extend his stay at the Etihad through to the summer of 2031.

It represents another huge boost for City as the countdown to the 2026/27 campaign intensifies – and comes on the back of recent new deals for team-mates Phil Foden, Joško Gvardiol and Abdukodir Khusanov.

Doku had made a huge impact since signing for City from Stade Rennais in 2023, helping City amass five trophies in that time.

Reflecting on the news, the 24-year-old said he was hugely excited to have signed the new contract.

And he also asserted that City were the ideal club in terms of seeking to add to his collection of silverware.

“I am so happy that they trusted in me first of all and that I can continue to play for this big club,” Doku said.

Men's Team

Doku can’t wait to get started under Maresca

“I remember when I arrived here from France a bit of an underdog.

“Nobody really knew me. I had to prove myself and being able now to sign a new contract shows that they trusted me and that they appreciate how I’ve been playing.

“So now it’s just a privilege.

“I think everyone wants to play in a team that wins a lot, so I think I’m at the right place if you want to win trophies, if you want to be up there, if you want to grow as a player.

“I feel like in the last couple of years I’ve learnt so much and I’m still an unfinished product.

“So that’s why I feel like this decision has been an easy one.”

Doku’s new contract comes on the back of a 2025/26 campaign that was by common consent hjs finest season yet at City.

Jérémy weighed in with eight goals and 14 assists and played a huge part in helping City to lift both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Now comes a fresh challenge under the leadership of new Enzo Maresca – and from his perspective Doku asserted that there was still so much more to come from him as a player.

“I feel like compared to the other two seasons, [it was] more complete [last season],” Doku reflected.

“From the start to the end, obviously there is always going to be bad games, but I was more involved.

“I played more; I was more efficient. And yeah [there were] goals and assists. I feel like when I look back there was still a lot of games where I could have scored or had an assist.

“But compared to the other two seasons there has been growth, positively, every season better.

“But like I said before I feel like I’m still an unfinished project.

“When I look back, I can be happy, but I feel like I look also forward to the next seasons and to the season that is going to come now.

“I’m looking forward. I’m looking forward also appreciating what I already achieved. Appreciating that I get a chance to play for a big club like this.”
