Doku signs new contract extension

Jérémy Doku has signed a new five-year contract with Manchester City, with the deal extending his stay at the Etihad through to the summer of 2031.

Men's Team

Doku can’t wait to get started under Maresca

Having joined City from French club Stade Rennais in the summer of 2023, the Belgian winger has gone on to establish himself as one of the most talented and exciting wide players operating in the Premier League.

Blessed with a searing turn of pace, brilliant close control and superb dribbling skills as well as a fine eye for goal, in the process Doku has cemented his standing as one of the key components in the City squad.

To date, the 24-year-old has chalked up 131 appearances for the Club, weighing in with 22 goals.

He also demonstrated his adaptability, occasionally being deployed on the right flank or even more centrally alongside his more trademark left wing berth.

His efforts have also helped City amass five major trophies in that time, a haul that includes one Premier League, the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and Community Shield.

One of Belgium’s most important international players, Doku has won 48 caps to date and helped his country reach the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup finals.

In the wake of signing his new deal, Doku expressed his delight and revealed how he was hugely motivated to play his part in City’s quest for more success under recently appointed manager Enzo Maresca.

“I have loved my time at City so far, so to have the opportunity to stay for longer is a fantastic feeling,” Doku said.

“This club means so much to me – I have developed as both a player and a person. I feel settled here, and I know I am improving every day because of the work the staff here do.

“It’s hard to explain just how much this Club does to help players. I don’t take it for granted and it makes me better.

“With Enzo here now I am really excited about the new season. His style of football is the kind we love, so that’s exciting for the players.

“The City fans are also a huge reason I have signed this new contract. I feel their love and support, and it means the world to me. I want to focus of bringing them the success they deserve.”

For his part, City Director of Football Hugo Viana said he was equally thrilled that Doku’s long-term future was now secured.

“Jérémy is a huge talent whose improvement since joining us in 2023 is clear for all to see,” Viana said.

“He has a special dynamic. He has the right characteristics for what we are looking for in a winger. He really does bring a special quality to our team.

“Jérémy is also a fantastic person. He is someone loved across the Club. His attitude is first class, and he wants to improve every single day.

“He deserves this new deal, and I know he will continue his improvement in the coming months and years.”

Wing command

If you wanted to assemble the prototype of an elite, world class winger, it could be argued that in every facet Jérémy Doku more than fits the bill.

Over the course of his three years at Manchester City, the brilliant Belgian has gone on to prove himself as one of the European game’s truly outstanding wing talents.

Doku had arrived at City in the summer of 2023 as a relatively inexperienced 21-year-old, but a player already armed with vast potential.

He hit the ground running, adapting to the demands of the Premier League and life in a new country with aplomb and proving a huge favourite with the City fans.

Not least in a sensational display during a 6-1 victory against Bournemouth that saw Doku become the youngest player in Premier League history to provide four assists and be involved in five goal involvements

All told, Doku would go on to make more than 40 appearances in that maiden campaign, weighing in with six goals and 11 assists for good measure with his contribution helping City to secure a historic fourth straight Premier League title.

Though two separate injuries conspired to limit his appearances across what proved a tough 24/25 campaign generally for City, Doku still contributed eight goals and nine assists, further establishing himself an indispensable part of the squad.

By now fully versed with life in England and adding a consistent edge to complement his natural flair and ability, it’s fair to say the 2025/26 season saw Doku’s prodigious talent truly take flight.

A series of quite outstanding individual performances saw him further stamp his credentials as one of the Premier League’s most eye catching and effective operators.

Furthermore, Doku was instrumental in helping City mark Pep Guardiola’s final season at the helm in style by claiming both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

Doku was a pivotal part of those twin trophy successes, not least in providing both an equaliser and an assist for Nico’s late winner in a dramatic 2-1 FA Cup semi-final victory over Southampton.

All told he made 47 appearances adding eight goals and 14 assists in what was a season to savour.

Memorable strikes against Liverpool, Chelsea and Everton represented just some of the high individual watermarks before Doku then took his talents onto the ultimate international stage, helping Belgium reach the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.

Now with his long-term future secured, Doku will be seeking to help bring further success to City with new manager Enzo Maresca now installed at the Etihad helm.
