Dolphins might've found their WR1 for Malik Willis in rookie after just one catch originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Miami Dolphins signed Malik Willis to a fairly large contract over the offseason to be their new starting quarterback as they get underway with a rebuild. Willis is a very exciting QB, as his dual-threat ability is a reason to tune into games alone. But with a barren wide receiver room after they moved on from Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill, who is going to step up as the new No. 1 WR? Well, the Dolphins might've found Willis' new No. 1 target in third-round rookie Caleb Douglas. The reason why? Douglas made one catch during the preseason opener that was a stunning reception and should further bolster his already soaring camp stock. Caleb Douglas might be Dolphins' new No. 1 WR for Malik Willis Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN described Douglas's incredible catch well, writing: "The rookie shook off defensive pass interference, tipped the ball to himself with one hand and corralled it in for a 28-yard reception." The video of the catch, which the NFL shared on its social media, was an incredible must-see highlight for any Dolphins fan.

Caleb Douglas oh my 😮 MIAvsWAS Stream on @NFLPluspic.twitter.com/21vkGuMeTb — NFL (@NFL) August 14, 2026 Considering that coming into this preseason game, Douglas had already "shot up the depth chart" for the Dolphins, according to Louis-Jaques, things seem incredibly optimistic for the rookie third-round WR this season. MORE: Why Shedeur Sanders vs. Deshaun Watson QB competition is taking so long for Browns It's a completely wide-open competition at wide receiver, with Malik Washington, Tutu Atwell, Jalen Tolbert, Chris Bell, Kevin Coleman Jr., and a collection of other depth options all competing for starting jobs. But between his camp buzz and now this ridiculous acrobatic catch, Douglas seems to be trending towards being the Dolphins' WR1 for the upcoming season. While there's still time for Washington or another WR to earn the No. 1 job, if the way things are going continues, it's going to be hard to deny that Douglas isn't the new No. 1 WR in Miami, thanks in part to this one ridiculous catch.
