Although the 2026-27 season is fast approaching, Duke head coach Jon Scheyer still has his eyes focused on the future. Scheyer and the university recently made an offer to another top prospect, four-star small forward prospect Asa Montgomery. Montgomery is nationally ranked as the No. 42 prospect in the class of 2027, according to 247 Sports. At 6'7" and 195 pounds, Montgomery provides athleticism, defense and grit. Like a few other recent Duke recruits, Montgomery has experience playing on the brightest stage, representing Team USA at the U17 FIBA World Cup with current Blue Devil Joaquim Boumtje-Boumtje. In seven contests with Team USA, Montgomery excelled off the ball, averaging 9.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.3 steals. Last season at Hillgrove High School, Montgomery averaged 18.9 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 30 games played. In addition to Duke, Montgomery has standing offers from Auburn, Georgia, Alabama and Arizona.
