The Philadelphia Eagles will move from training-camp evaluation to live competition when they visit the Baltimore Ravens for Saturday night’s preseason opener. Philadelphia has several established starters who may not play or could receive limited work. Their anticipated absences will create opportunities for rookies, reserves and veterans competing for roles within one of the NFL’s deepest rosters.

The Eagles must reduce their offseason roster to 53 players by Aug. 30, leaving only three preseason games for players to make their cases. Position battles at backup quarterback, wide receiver, tight end, offensive tackle and throughout the secondary remain worth monitoring.

Here are seven Eagles with the most to prove against Baltimore.

Tanner McKee

Philadelphia brought Andy Dalton to training camp to provide an experienced option behind Jalen Hurts, placing McKee in a legitimate competition for the backup quarterback job. The preseason opener gives McKee his first opportunity to demonstrate how much he has developed in Sean Mannion’s offense.

McKee has displayed intriguing ability during previous preseason appearances, but his evaluation will extend beyond completions and passing yards. The Eagles need to see command at the line of scrimmage, efficient decision-making, and the ability to function when protection or a play breaks down. A composed performance would help McKee remind the coaching staff why he has been considered a promising developmental quarterback.

Hollywood Brown

Brown’s guaranteed money and established NFL production make him a strong candidate to remain on the roster, but his quiet training camp has allowed other receivers to gain ground. Dontayvion Wicks, Elijah Moore, and Darius Cooper have produced more memorable moments in practice.

Brown was also the intended receiver on two notable Jalen Hurts interceptions after defenders undercut the route. The plays were not entirely his responsibility, but Philadelphia needs to see him attack the football more consistently and build better timing with its quarterbacks. Brown does not need a dominant performance in Baltimore, but several catches and cleanly executed routes would help steady his outlook.

Darius Cooper

Cooper has been one of Philadelphia’s most productive training-camp receivers, making difficult catches and earning repetitions with Hurts. The challenge is carrying that practice production into a game.

The receiver competition remains crowded behind DeVonta Smith, Makai Lemon and Wicks. Brown and Moore bring proven NFL experience, while Britain Covey and several others can contribute on special teams. Cooper must show that he can separate against unfamiliar defenders, execute his assignments and provide value when he is not the primary target. Hurts has discussed the value of working with Cooper, and a productive opener would strengthen the young receiver’s argument for a roster spot.

Eli Stowers

The Eagles selected Stowers in the second round because of his athletic traits and receiving potential, but his first training camp has required patience. He has spent portions of the summer working behind Philadelphia’s experienced tight ends rather than immediately securing the No. 2 role.

Preseason games should provide Stowers with more targets and opportunities to play extended snaps. His receiving ability is an important part of the evaluation, but the Eagles must also determine whether he can block NFL defenders, execute assignments from multiple alignments and contribute on special teams. Saturday represents Stowers’ first chance to demonstrate why Philadelphia invested a premium draft selection in him.

Markel Bell

Bell’s massive 6-foot-9, 346-pound frame makes him one of Philadelphia’s most intriguing rookies. The third-round pick has worked at both tackle positions and impressed during recent one-on-one drills, displaying more movement ability than his size might suggest. The Eagles highlighted his work on both sides in their training camp notes.

The Ravens will provide a significant test for Bell’s technique. He must maintain a consistent base, handle speed around the edge, and avoid letting his height create leverage problems. Philadelphia already has experienced tackle options, so Bell must prove that his developmental upside can be trusted if he is needed during the regular season.

Michael Carter II

Carter’s ability to line up at multiple positions has made him an important part of Vic Fangio’s secondary plans. He has worked as the starting defensive back in dime packages while learning responsibilities at nickel cornerback and safety.

That versatility also creates a demanding preseason evaluation. Carter must communicate properly, tackle in space, and remain disciplined when shifting between assignments. The Eagles already possess considerable talent in the secondary, so his value will be tied to how reliably he can fill several roles. A clean performance against Baltimore would reinforce his position as a versatile game-day option.

Kelee Ringo

Ringo enters his fourth season at an important point in his Eagles career. Philadelphia added Riq Woolen and several experienced defensive backs during the offseason, creating more competition for snaps behind Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.

Ringo’s size and speed remain attractive, but the Eagles need greater down-to-down consistency. He must avoid penalties, locate the football, and prevent receivers from creating separation at the top of routes. Special teams will remain part of his value, but a strong coverage performance against Baltimore would help Ringo establish himself as a dependable outside cornerback rather than another player caught in a crowded competition.
