Darius Cooper has enjoyed a productive training camp, but the second-year Eagles wide receiver enters an important week needing a strong response during joint practice sessions in New England. Cooper led Philadelphia with two catches for 21 yards in Saturday’s 24-7 preseason loss to Baltimore. His production led a struggling offense, but his first-quarter drop on third down prevented Andy Dalton from extending the drive.
Cooper must turn training camp success into consistency
The mistake stood out because Cooper has been one of Philadelphia’s most reliable performers. He has consistently created separation, made difficult catches and earned Jalen Hurts’ trust during a crowded receiver competition.
One drop should not erase that work. Philadelphia will practice against New England on Wednesday and Thursday before Saturday’s preseason game. Those sessions should give Cooper opportunities against New England cornerbacks and a defense led by Christina Gonzalez that can challenge him with physicality at the line of scrimmage.
Cooper made Philadelphia’s roster as an undrafted rookie in 2025 and caught nine passes for 92 yards. His place within the current Eagles receiver rotation is not guaranteed, but his strong summer has moved him from the roster bubble toward competition for a meaningful offensive role.
The next step is to show that his production travels into enemy territory. Cooper must finish routine catches, win against press coverage, and maintain his timing with multiple quarterbacks not named Hurts. He does not need another collection of highlight-reel plays. He needs dependable, consistent repetitions.
