EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Locomotive FC made a strong statement on the road beating in-conference opponent, San Antonio FC 3-0 Saturday night, Aug. 15, at Toyota Field. San Antonio FC sat in 2nd place of the USL Championship's Western Conference standings prior to the match.
The Locos first got on the scoreboard at minute 20 of the first half with long-distance strike far from the box by Alex Mendez.
Nearly 20 minutes later in the first half, Mendez intercepted an errant pass from an SAFC defender that left him 1-on-1 against the goalkeeper. Mendez put it past the keeper and into the net to score his brace of the night.
Continuing to apply pressure at minute 43, the Locos would again capitalize on an errant pass from a San Antonio defender off a throw-in, that led to Amando Moreno getting the ball inside the box to the left field. Moreno quickly sent a cross into the penalty box that Jimmy Farkarlun tapped into the net for his first goal of the season.
El Paso scored all of its three goals before the first half ended.
The Locos were already heading into the match with momentum from three wins out of their last four matches. However, none of those victories had been on the road. The last time the Locos had won an away game prior to Saturday night was back in July 4 against the Las Vegas Lights FC, where they won 2-1.
The Locos are now on a three-game win streak and climbed up from 6th to 4th place in the USL Championship's Western Conference standings.
