
Former NBA big man Enes Kanter Freedom is taking the debate over transgender athletes in women’s sports into his own hands.
Enes Kanter Freedom put the WNBA in a tight spot by throwing his name into the 2027 draft to force a showdown over its trans eligibility policies.
WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert set up a task force to take a look, but don’t expect a quick decision. With no transgender players currently in the league, officials say there’s no rush to lock down a rigid policy just to address a publicity move.
Interestingly, Dwight Howard’s former teammate, Ty Lawson, has a ‘simple’ solution to end transgender athletes in the WNBA debate in the form of starting a trans league.
However, Enes Kanter has another idea up his sleeve.
Enes Kanter suggests an NBA and WNBA merger
Enes Kanter is known for his outlandish comments, but this latest one may just be one of the most unlikely ones yet.
Taking to his personal X account, Kanter suggested the idea of merging the WNBA and the NBA.
The WNBA is already a sister league under the NBA umbrella, but a full structural or competitive merger isn’t happening. They remain separate entities with completely different talent pools, season calendars, and business models, plus the fact of different salaries and funding.
Although, most things Kanter says nowadays are taken with a pinch of salt.
