ESPN's recent layoffs sent shockwaves through the sports-media world, with longtime on-air personalities among the notable names affected by the network's latest round of cuts. But for one fan favorite, the iconic voice of the Little League World Series, the fallout has been particularly bizarre.

After spending more than three decades at ESPN, becoming closely associated with MLB coverage, “Baseball Tonight” and the Little League World Series, Karl Ravich offered his first extended comments on the layoffs during a podcast interview released on Saturday.

ESPN Castoff Karl Ravech Sends Little League World Series Update

Despite being fired, he confirmed that he is still set to work the annual Little League showcase, and he spoke out about his personal reaction to his career update.

“The most surreal part has been the notes of gratitude, the notes of frustration that I’ve received (from fans),” Ravech told the Westwood One Sports Night show. “That part has been so overwhelming and gratifying and heart warming, that’s really sort of the overriding emotion that I have at this point.”

And Ravech added that he bears no ill will toward ESPN as he prepared to return for the Little League World Series this month.

“(I) can’t wait to get to the Little League World Series, because it’s obviously the event that I think most people associate me with,” he added.

Little League World Series, MLB Broadcaster Karl Ravech Suddenly Fired During ESPN Layoffs

Ravech’s firing caught the baseball world by surprise because of his unique connection to the Little League World Series but also because he has been the voice of most MLB broadcasts and special baseball events at the broadcaster for decades.

“Ravech has been at ESPN since 1993 and was the lead play-by-play voice for its baseball coverage,” Scooby Axson and Mark Giannotto noted for USA Today. “The 61-year-old Ravech has also called college basketball, college baseball and the Little League World Series for the network. He also anchored SportsCenter during his tenure with ESPN.”

Ravech was among several high-profile names caught up in the network's latest restructuring. The cuts also affected figures such as Ryan Clark, Cam Newton, Tom Pelissero, David Lloyd, Stephania Bell and Charles Davis, with ESPN tying much of the restructuring to its integration of NFL Network assets.

Yet Ravech's focus has seemingly shifted away from the circumstances of his departure and toward the people who supported him throughout his career, as well as those preparing to watch his favorite baseball event of the year in the near future.
