The talk of this past weekend's first full NFL preseason schedule has been the play of rookie quarterbacks. There were several impressive performances by these QBs, and we are about to examine each. The most surprising performance: Drew Allar People forget that before his injury, Drew Allar was going to be one of the top QB's in the draft. Allar showed why the Steelers were smart to land him later in this draft. Allar threw for 153 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a 77 percent completion rate. Allar had Steelers fans grinning from ear to ear after that performance, proving that all is not lost once Aaron Rodgers retires. Most efficient: Fernando Mendoza Fernando Mendoza didn't look bad in his first start either. He was 10 of 16 for 97 yards and a touchdown. Mina Kimes was impressed by Mendoza, saying he looked comfortable, aggressive, and showed resilience in his first start. Mendoza wasn't pleased with his performance, which is a good sign that he's not satisfied and wants to get better. Most impressive: Ty Simpson Simpson may have shocked many with his performance, but his outing was the most impressive of the group because he looked comfortable in Sean McVay's offense. He looked efficient and confident, and, frankly, like a starting NFL quarterback. Of all the quarterbacks mentioned, he looked the most ready to start if the season were to begin tomorrow. Simpson finished the day 21 of 25 for 190 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. This article originally appeared on Touchdown Wire: Evaluating NFL rookie QBs' impressive preseason starts
