The Little League World Series will have an Alabama flavor for the first time since 1999 when the international youth baseball tournament kicks off this week.
Phenix City Little League's 11-12 all-star team has touched down in Williamsport, Pennsylvania this week for the Little League World Series, set to begin on Wednesday, August 19.
Alabama's all-stars are led by a triple-threat on the mound, at the dish and in the field, Kinley Rasmus, the daughter of former MLB pitcher Cory Rasmus, who played on the 1999 Phenix City LLWS team. Cory also serves as an assistant on staff alongside his younger brother Chase, Phenix City's head coach.
Winning both the Alabama state championship and Southeast regional title, Phenix City secured its spot as one of 20 teams in the nearly 80-year-old event.
Before Phenix City opens the United States Bracket at Lamade Stadium at 2 p.m. CT on Aug. 19, here is a brief history of Alabama's representatives in the LLWS.
