Curtis Jones transfer latest as Inter Milan line up fresh Liverpool approach

Curtis Jones looks increasingly central to one of Liverpool’s most delicate late-window decisions, with Inter Milan expected to return after an initial offer was rejected. Credit for the latest update goes to Fabrizio Romano on X, who reported: “Inter remain keen on the English midfielder with new bid anticipated, deal depends on club-to-club talks as player wants the move.”

That is the clearest indication yet that this situation remains active, and that the direction of travel may now depend less on public positioning and more on whether the two clubs can narrow the valuation gap. Liverpool are understood to have turned down an opening £21.7m proposal, while previous reporting has pointed to a higher asking price, with room for movement also appearing possible.

Inter Milan push grows stronger

Inter’s interest in Jones has been persistent rather than opportunistic. From their perspective, he is seen as a midfield target worth pursuing, and there is now a sense that they believe conditions could become more favourable. When a buying club keeps returning to the table, it usually reflects encouragement somewhere in the process, whether from the player’s stance, the selling club’s softening position, or both.

In this case, the suggestion that Jones is open to the move matters. It changes the shape of the negotiation and places greater focus on timing, structure and fee. Inter are unlikely to want this to drift if they believe a deal can be struck in the region of £30m.

Liverpool selection call adds intrigue

Jones’ absence from Liverpool’s pair of friendlies against Como has only intensified interest around his future. While Andoni Iraola has referenced a minor hip issue, the optics inevitably invite scrutiny, especially when so many others were involved across the two matches.

Pre-season omissions do not always tell the full story, but they regularly sharpen transfer noise when a player is already the subject of firm interest. In Jones’ case, it has added another layer to a situation that already felt live. For Liverpool, there is now a balancing act between protecting value and deciding whether this is the right moment to part with a homegrown midfielder entering a key stage of his career.

Curtis Jones future could move quickly

What happens next should become clearer soon. If Inter submit the expected second bid, Liverpool will need to decide whether to hold their line, negotiate towards a compromise, or close the door. There is no shortage of logic to Inter’s pursuit, and there is now enough evidence to suggest this is more than routine interest.

Jones has long represented more than squad depth at Anfield. He is an academy product, a local player, and someone whose development has carried symbolic weight as well as football value. That does not prevent a transfer, but it does make the decision more sensitive.

As things stand, this feels like a deal that has moved beyond vague admiration and into a serious phase. Inter Milan are preparing again, Liverpool are listening, and Curtis Jones’ future may soon hinge on the next round of talks.

Our View

From a Liverpool supporter’s perspective, this is one of those reports that leaves you genuinely unsure. Jones has always felt like a player you want to succeed at Anfield, partly because of the local connection, partly because there have been plenty of moments where his quality has been obvious. He carries the ball well, keeps possession in tight spaces and can help control matches. There is a player there who still feels capable of doing more.

At the same time, if he genuinely wants the move and Liverpool can get around £30m, it becomes a difficult one to dismiss. That is strong money for a player who has never fully nailed down an undisputed starting role. Supporters will naturally ask whether that fee could be reinvested in a profile Iraola trusts more completely for his system.

The concern is whether Liverpool might regret letting him go if he settles quickly in Serie A and shows the consistency many have been waiting for. There is also the emotional side, because academy players matter, especially when they come from the city and understand what the club means.

So the feeling is mixed. If Jones stays, many fans will still believe he can contribute. If he goes for the right price, plenty will understand the logic. This is one of those situations where both outcomes can make sense, which is why the uncertainty around it feels so real.
