Bradley Barcola to Liverpool gathers pace as PSG talks continue

The final stretch of the transfer window is beginning to accelerate, and one of the standout stories centres on Bradley Barcola, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain. The latest update points to a deal that is active, complex and still unresolved, with direct contact continuing and confidence growing around Liverpool’s pursuit.

According to Fabrizio Romano, “it’s going to be a crazy end of the window” and “the market is moving”. Within that wider picture, Barcola has emerged as a leading priority at Anfield, with Liverpool pushing hard to understand whether a move from PSG can be completed in the days ahead.

Barcola remains Liverpool’s absolute top priority

The clearest line from the latest update is Liverpool’s determination. Romano said, “Liverpool are working hard to sign Bradley Barcola” and added that it is “been a story I’ve been following for months here on the on the channel May, June, July, we are now in August”.

That is a significant development in itself. Liverpool’s interest is long-standing, the talks are live, and the sense from those close to the discussions is that momentum is building, even if a final agreement still has work to be done.

Romano was explicit on where Barcola stands in Liverpool’s planning. “The agreement with the player is okay and Barcola remains the absolute top priority for Liverpool from Paris.” For a deal of this size and profile, that detail matters. It places the focus firmly on the club-to-club negotiations.

PSG stance and Luis Enrique comments shape next stage

Barcola’s situation at PSG has also been pushed further into the spotlight by comments from Luis Enrique. Asked about players potentially leaving, the PSG manager delivered a message that inevitably drew attention.

As Romano explained, “Luis Enrique shows up in press conference and when asked about players eventually leaving and Barcola is clearly one of them. Luis Enrique says if a player doesn’t have a smile when he’s here, when he comes to training, maybe it’s better to find a different solution.”

That last point is central. PSG may be open to solutions, but only if the financial terms make sense. That links directly to where the Barcola deal now stands.

Financial agreement still needed as direct talks continue

For all the growing confidence, this move has not yet reached a breakthrough. Romano said, “Then a financial agreement is still needed. So let’s wait the next steps of this negotiation but direct talks are ongoing.”

There is no expectation of an immediate conclusion. Romano added, “The conversations will continue these days. I don’t expect a breakthrough today. Tomorrow doesn’t look likely but from next week they will be in contact again and the Barcola story will be very very interesting because Liverpool are on it.”

That places the emphasis on the coming days rather than the immediate hours. The framework of the deal still appears to require progress between the clubs, but the fact that direct talks are ongoing, and that Liverpool’s agreement with the player is already described as okay, leaves this as one of the major live stories to watch.

Gakpo exit possibility tied to Barcola move

Another important aspect of the update is the potential knock-on effect involving Cody Gakpo. Liverpool’s stance earlier in the market had been firm. Romano said, “Liverpool didn’t want to sell Gakpo at the beginning of the market when Tottenham approached. The answer for Liverpool was always we want to keep the player. We don’t want to open doors. We don’t want to lose the player.”

That position could shift if Barcola arrives. Romano explained, “But now Liverpool if they sign Bradley Barcola could open doors to the exit of Cody Gakpo. That’s a possibility we absolutely have to take in consideration.”

For Liverpool, that means the Barcola negotiations may influence more than one piece of business before the window closes. The priority is clear, the talks are active, and the confidence around the move is growing. The remaining obstacle is equally clear, a financial agreement with PSG.

With the market entering what Romano called a “completely crazy busy” period, Barcola’s future looks set to remain one of the biggest stories to track. Liverpool are pushing, PSG are listening under the right conditions, and the next round of contact could prove decisive.
