Fantasy football rookie rankings 2026: Best rookies & first-year sleepers for redraft, dynasty leagues originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. Drafting rookies in fantasy football is an exciting proposition in redraft and dynasty leagues because they represent hope. Several promising newcomers have offensive skill upside that can soon transition into pleasing pro production, either immediately or in another season or two. It's also important, however, not to go overboard with rookies. First, identify the first-year players with the most straight-up running, receiving, and passing talent. Second, examine when they can have a key role and produce fantasy-viable numbers. The 2026 NFL Draft class offers its share of intriguing options across rounds and positions who can help rosters at some point, this year or beyond. Splitting the difference between standard and full-point PPR, here are the rookie rankings for half-point PPR leagues, with draft recommendations based on 12-team leagues and 17 rounds. Target these rookies in drafts 1. Jeremiyah Love, RB, Cardinals Love is second on the Cardinals' depth chart behind fellow newcomer Tyler Allgeier as he sits out the rest of the preseason with a high ankle sprain. He still should be drafted as a solid RB2 because of his massive upside as a runner and receiver. You just may need to wait a while to see his boom manifest, playing him as a FLEX early. 2. Jadarian Price, RB, Seahawks Price has been battling what's been described as "leg soreness" to keep him from playing yet in the preseason. The other Notre Dame rookie is more limited than Love and profiles a lot like Kenneth Walker III, a power back who isn't as comfortable in passing situations as a receiver and blocker. Price should get his shot, however, to have a key Walker-like role, first playing off the versatile George Holani until Zach Charbonnet (knee) can return. The team also has former Packers backup Emanuel Wilson on the roster. Draft him as a high-end RB3. 3. Carnell Tate, WR, Titans Tate joins a team that has only 60 vacated wide receiver targets and also added former Giants slot option Wan'Dale Robinson and retained Calvin Ridley. His catch-less preseason debut shouldn't be too discouraging, Tate projects as the "X" outside in relation to Robinson's "Y" and Ridley's "Z". Still given second-year QB Cam Ward and a Tennessee offense in transition, draft him as a late WR3. 4. Jordyn Tyson, WR, Saints File Tyson (hamstring) under rookie skill players battling injuries in the preseason. The Saints have negligible vacated targets away from Chris Olave and Juwan Johnson. The Saints should still throw more than 60 percent of the time under Kellen Moore, but Tyson will need to siphon off some significant veteran production to provide WR3 value. Draft him as a late WR4. 5. Makai Lemon, WR, Eagles Lemon is also dealing with a lingering hamstring issue as he tries to debut in Philadelphia to help replace A.J. Brown on a team with 155 vacated wide receiver targets. DeVonta Smith will be the prime beneficiary as borderline WR1, but Lemon has some work to do to get some vital looks from Jalen Hurts with veteran newcomers Hollywood Brown and Dontayvion Wicks also in the mix. Draft him as a late WR4, too.

6. KC Concepcion, WR, Browns Concepcion looks like he will be a dynamic cog as tries to become the new Zay Flowers for Todd Monken's offense. But there are only 48 vacated wide receiver targets and the team still has Jerry Jeudy and also drafted Denzel Boston. Concepcion's unique big-play talent can push him toward a bigger role, but at first, with a shaky QB situation, draft him as an upside WR5. 7. D'Zhaun Stribling, WR, 49ers Stribling has flashed early, taking advantage of more top reps with veteran newcomers Mike Evans and Christian Kirk banged up and returning Deebo Samuel getting his feet wet in the offense again. Stribling looks like a special talent to fill the void created by continued hard luck for Ricky Pearsall. Draft him as a WR5 with some real upside. 8. Jonah Coleman, RB, Broncos The combination of J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey was underwhelming in the rushing attack last season despite middle-of-the-pack production. Dobbins continues to struggle to stay healthy, while Harvey was an inefficient runner. Coleman has impressed in camp and got some first-team work in the preseason. He can steal key power touches from Harvey as Dobbins is the more explosive option of the latter two. Draft Coleman as a RB4 or RB5. MORE: Best fantasy football draft strategies

Late-round or waiver wire rookies to consider 9. Mike Washington Jr. RB, Raiders Washington makes the cut after his impressive big-play preseason debut to all but lock up the No. 2 job behind Ashton Jeanty, blowing past Dylan Laube on the depth chart. Draft Washington as a prime clear handcuff. 10. Denzel Boston, WR, Browns Boston can be considered in deeper leagues with a similar opportunity to Concepcion, but he's developing as the fourth target at best behind Jeudy, Concepcion and tight end Harold Fannin Jr. Draft him at best as a late WR5 or early WR6. 11. Omar Cooper Jr., WR, Jets Cooper was a real first-round draft pick but has had a underwhelming first training camp behind Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell. The Jets' passing game also isn't all that inspiring with Geno Smith to extend deeper on the depth chart. Still, Cooper's talent says he can be either drafted late or watched for a priority waiver pickup. 12. Fernando Mendoza, QB, Raiders Mendoza is buried as a QB3 with Kirk Cousins looking like the surefire early bridge starter for Klint Kubiak. But Mendoza is bound to get starts at some point during the season when either the Raiders fade from contention or Cousins battles more injury. He has enough weapons, led by Brock Bowers, to be appealing as a second-half streamer. 13. Caleb Douglas, WR, Dolphins The Dolphins have 160 vacated targets at wide receiver with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle gone. Douglas looks like the best of the young options for new QB Malik Willis to have a busy starter role with former Cowboy Jalen Tolbert. Miami's passing game doesn't inspire much overall, but Douglas is the rookie to watch more than Chris Bell early. 14. Kenyon Sadiq, TE, Jets Sadiq has been set back from seeing field time by his recovery from hernia surgery. That has decelerated his timeline to have a key role in the new offense of Frank Reich. But the former Oregon star can work himself into producing well as a rookie a little later in the season.

Stash these rookies more for dynasty 15. Eli Stowers, TE, Eagles Stowers is being stowed away behind Dallas Goedert, back on only a one-year contract at age 31. The athletic target will be the clear No. 2 ahead of Johnny Mundt but his breakout is coming when replaces Godert as the No. 1 in 2027. 16. Antonio Williams, WR, Commanders Williams had more appeal opposite Terry McLaurin until the team added Stefon Diggs. He can still have some key snaps as a slot playmaker and big-play threat, but Luke McCaffrey is also ahead of him. Williams would be in line for bigger things in 2027 with Diggs only on a one-year deal. 17. Emmett Johnson, RB, Chiefs Johnson is starting third on the depth chart behind Walker and Emari Demercado, will need to wait for a important role, barring some injuries in 2026. The Nebraska back, however, should be firm on the future radar given it's Kansas City's offense. 18. Germie Bernard, WR, Steelers Bernard is battling for the No. 3 spot with Roman Wilson behind DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. The former Alabama playmaker has impressed early but needs to be more consistent to get on the field in a regular role. 19. Chris Bell, WR, Dolphins Bell is coming off a torn ACL in his final college season at Louisville, which put Douglas ahead of him in the rookie pecking order. At 6-2, 220 pounds, there's a lot of promise for him to emerge into a top target next season. 20. Nicholas Singleton, RB, Titans Singleton, the former Penn State standout, is third on the depth chart behind Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears. Both veterans are in the final years of contracts, so Singleton has a shot to show he belongs in a busier capacity for a young offense next season.
