The Seattle Seahawks led the Dallas Cowboys 7-3 at halftime of their first preseason game. Their offense opened with a score, but failed to do so in the three other drives of the half. More importantly, though, there are clear signs of Brian Fleury’s offensive identity and the defense’s’ controlled violence identity that Hard Knocks preached about.
Mason Richman has been getting downfield on offense to help Jake Bobo and George Holani forward. However, Beau Stephens was showing ferocity that separated him near the end of the first half. Both looked like the best of the offensive line group who have played so far tonight for stretches of the half. Josh Jones had a penalty, but had his hands full with a Dallas’ defensive front who’s specifically strong in young depth players, and he was dealing with the likes of Malachi Lawrence, Jaishawn Barham, and LT Overton coming after him. However, the group did fall apart near the end and allow a sack to James Houston.
My favorite part about Milroe’s first half is how strong he started by hititng targets over the middle. His eyes stay downfield and scan side to side for check downs, a big development for a dual-threat signal caller who struggled with split-second decision making in college. I will be excited if he keeps hitting targets over the middle, and opening up the outside runs because of it. His athleticism is already seeing more open fields to run in, and the long-term potential for further growth seems open as well with him being just 23 and starting only two years in college.
