The countdown to the 2026-27 college basketball season is almost here, and Sports Illustrated is continuing its position-by-position series, highlighting the nation's best players. The most recent installment turns to the power forward position, a position filled with talented frontcourt players who could play major roles for their teams. As Florida prepares for another season as championship contenders, the Gators' starting power forward, Alex Condon, was recognized as one of the best players at his position. The senior was recognized by Sports Illustrated as the No. 3 power forward in the country. Condon returned to Florida after withdrawing his name from the NBA draft process, where he would have seen himself selected as a late first- or early second-round draft pick. The Gators big also tested the draft waters following the 2024-25 season. Last season with Florida, Condon averaged 15.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game and was named a finalist for the Kareem Abdul Jabbar Award, which is awarded to the best center in the country. Condon's return gives Florida one of the most experienced and versatile frontcourt players in the country heading into the 2026-27 season. His multifaceted game makes him a crucial piece of the Gators' title aspirations. With Condon back in Gainesville, expectations will be high. If he can build on his production from last season, the Gators' second-leading scorer from last season could play a major role in Florida's pursuit of another deep NCAA Tournament run and elevate his NBA Draft stock in the process.
