Former Florida basketball guard Bradley Beal has agreed to a two-year, $13.2 million deal to return to the LA Clippers, ESPN reports. The deal includes a player option in the second season.
After declining his $5.6 million player option, Beal spent the past month exploring his options in free agency, including interest from the Miami Heat, before ultimately deciding to remain with the Clippers.
Beal's decision to opt out allowed him to test his value on the open market while also giving Los Angeles additional flexibility to explore its roster options. In the end, the Clippers opted to retain Beal with a significant raise on a new two-year contract.
Beal's first season with the Clippers did not go as planned, as he only appeared in six games, but the new contract allows him to reset heading into his 15th NBA season. Beal, a three-time NBA All-Star, will look to stay healthy and recapture the form that made him one of the league's premier scoring guards during his time with the Washington Wizards.
With Los Angeles transitioning toward a younger roster, Beal's experience could provide valuable leadership while he looks to carve out a meaningful role on the second unit. If he can return to form, the former Gator could prove to be an important piece for the Clippers over the next two seasons.
