The Charlotte Hornets have traded former Florida basketball standout guard Tre Mann to the Cleveland Cavaliers for veteran point guard Dennis Schröder and cash considerations, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. The deal has not yet been finalized.
Mann, who was drafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft with the 18th overall pick, made his way to Charlotte as part of a three-team deal at the 2024 trade deadline. He averaged 11.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 31.0 minutes per game over 28 games for the Hornets after the trade.
The Gainesville, Florida, native averaged 14.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists over 13 games the following season — representing the most productive span of his NBA tenure — before being sidelined by a severe disc herniation in his lower back. Since then, persistent injuries and inconsistent playing time resulted in the least productive stretch of his career, averaging 5.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 12.6 minutes per game over 53 games during the 2025-26 campaign.
Mann was a highly-regarded prospect coming out of high school, arriving in Gainesville as a McDonald's All-American in 2019. A concussion during his freshman season limited his effectiveness, but he emerged as a high-level talent the following year, averaging 16.0 points along with 5.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists over 24 games — all starts — earning First-Team All-SEC honors from the conference's coaches.
The deal allows Cleveland to clear $6.8 million, which moves them to about $29.6 million under the first apron, per Keith Smith. Charlotte adds that same amount to its books but will still be about $20 million under the luxury tax line.
