A former Georgia Bulldog linebacker has found a new NFL home. Former Georgia linebacker and NFL veteran Monty Rice has signed with the Los Angeles Rams, they announced on Thursday, Aug. 13.
Rice, now 27, was a 2021 third-round pick with the Tennessee Titans. So far, he's been a journeyman linebacker. He played with the Tennessee Titans, where he spent the bulk of his NFL experience. In 35 regular-season games, he totaled 128 tackles, five tackles for loss, no sacks, and two passes defended. The Titans waived him on Dec. 5, 2023.
He was claimed off waivers by the New Orleans Saints a day later, but he was released in the final cuts on Aug. 27, 2024. The Atlanta Falcons then signed Rice to their practice squad on Aug. 30, 2024, but they released him on Oct. 21. The New England Patriots also signed him to their practice squad on Nov. 5, 2024, and he was even promoted to the active roster on Jan. 5, 2025, playing in three games and recording one tackle. Unfortunately, he was cut again in the final cuts on Aug. 22, 2025.
Rice then signed with the Detroit Lions on Sept. 9, 2025, registering two tackles in their Week 2 win against the Chicago Bears, but they released him a week later. Overall, Rice has 131 total tackles, five tackles for loss, two passes defended, and still no sacks in the NFL. He had a brief stop with the Louisville Kings of the United Football League, but he didn't make any appearances.
Before he was drafted, Rice spent four seasons with the Georgia Bulldogs (2017-20). With the Bulldogs, he totaled 219 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, five passes defended, three forced fumbles, and a scoop-and-score in 2020 against the Tennessee Volunteers. He earned second-team All-SEC honors in 2019 and first-team All-SEC honors, along with second-team All-American honors, in 2020.
Rice will look to impress this preseason as he fights for a spot on the Rams' 53-man roster.
