Eight-year MLB veteran Trey Mancini has decided to hang up his cleats after a failed stint with the Los Angeles Angels. While Mancini did appear for four teams in his career, he is best known for his time in Baltimore with the Orioles.
Across six seasons in Baltimore, Mancini posted a .270 batting average, .334 on-base percentage, .797 OPS, 117 home runs and 350 RBIs, operating as one of the better hitters in MLB, particularly during a standout 2019 campaign.

Unfortunately, Mancini missed the entire 2020 season due to colon cancer that briefly interrupted his time with the organization, but he made a full recovery and returned to the field the following year in one of the more inspiring stories the sport has seen in recent memory.
Mancini built lasting bonds with his teammates in Baltimore, two of them being catcher Adley Rutschman and right-hander Tyler Wells. While both players were sent away at the trade deadline by the Orioles, they were both quick to support his retirement announcement on Instagram.
Rutschman was one of the first big-league players to like the post and Wells was one of the first to comment. Wells wrote, “Congratulations brother! It was an honor and a pleasure🫡.”
Rutschman and Wells both came into MLB years after Mancini and he served as a valuable veteran figure for both of them during their formative big-league years. Rutschman debuted in 2022 and spent just one season alongside Mancini, while Wells got a couple of years with him given his 2021 debut.
For a player who overcame so much just to keep playing the game he loved, the relationships he built along the way may end up being the most lasting part of his legacy.
