Aaliyah Guyton made a big impression on the international stage this past weekend.
The former Journal Star Girls Basketball Player of the Year helped lead the Brazilian national team to a third-place finish at the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2027 South American Qualifier on Aug. 8. Guyton, who will begin her junior year at Illinois this fall, was named to the All-Star Five.
In five games, Guyton averaged 14.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.2 steals. The 5-foot-7 point guard scored a game-high 18 points to go with six rebounds, four assists and three steals as Brazil beat Colombia 61-48 in the bronze-medal game.
Brazil lost to eventual gold-medal winner Argentina 72-66 in the semifinals, but not before Guyton scored 18 points with four rebounds and four assists.
Guyton's mother, Adriana Mafra, is a Brazil native who played for the Brazilian national team.

Guyton, who played for Peoria High, appeared in 30 games for the Fighting Illini last season, starting 15, while averaging 6.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists. Illinois finish 22-12 overall and made the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
