The New York Jets decided to take a chance on Ben Barten, but it's one they may be regretting.
After getting cut by the New York Giants before training camp, the former Wisconsin Badgers defensive lineman received a rough grade, courtesy of Pro Football Focus, after week one of the preseason.
The Jets fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 24-16, but it's not like Barten contributed much. He recorded one tackle and was officially the team's ninth-lowest-graded player with a 42.0 grade, according to PFF.
The team's lowest grade was a 28.9, so there's certainly room to fall even further, but overall, it wasn't a great first impression, especially after he was already cut by a different NFL team earlier this year.
Regardless, Barten will look to push forward and try to make an impact, if the opportunity presents itself, in the final two weeks of the preseason.
Currently 24-years-old, Barten would love to make some noise in his rookie season. During his time in Madison from 2022-25, he recorded 60 total tackles, seven pass deflections, and two sacks.
