Former West Texas A&M volleyball player and coach Kendra Potts will be inducted into the Lone Star Conference Hall of Honor, the league announced on Thursday, Aug. 13. Potts, who played four seasons with the Lady Buffs before spending a total of nine seasons as a coach for the team, is accompanied by Midwestern State men's soccer coach Doug Elder as 2026 inductees into the LSC Hall of Honor. Elder and Potts will be the conference's 65th and 66th Hall of Honor members, and were chosen by a panel of athletic administrators throughout the league. “These are two outstanding honorees,” LSC Commissioner Jay Poerner said. “Kendra’s success as both an LSC volleyball student-athlete and head coach are unrivaled. Potts finished her career as the LSC's all-time assists leader and just the 12th player in NCAA Division II history to reach 6,000 career assists. The former Lady Buffs' star helped her team to a 129-16 overall record, including 39-1 in conference play with four NCAA tournament appearances and a pair of regional championships in 2000 and 2003. Potts also earned a spot on the LSC’s 75th Anniversary Team. Following her playing career, Potts spent four seasons as an assistant coach for her alma mater, helping the team to a 131-27 record and 42-3 mark in the LSC. Potts was selected to West Texas A&M's Hall of Champions in 2014. Following a stint at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Potts returned to WT as head coach in 2018, accumulating a 124-24 record at the helm in Canyon, including a 14-3 mark in NCAA Division II tournament matches. Potts also coached eight All-Americans, won her final three LSC tournaments and led the Lady Buffs to the program's fourth NCAA Division II national championship in 2022, followed by a trip to the national finals in 2023. The WT alumna was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association National Coach of the Year in 2022. Potts left the Lady Buffs to take over as the head coach at Grand Canyon, a Division I program, where she has racked up a 37-24 record in her first two seasons at the helm. The Antelopes' head coach becomes the fifth representative from WTAMU to earn a spot in the LSC Hall of Honor, joining Buffs' football players Sergio Castillo and Dustin Vaughan, as well as fellow volleyball stars Sarah Butler Carthel and Julie Myatt O’Dell.
