Freddie Freeman’s family is looking ahead after enduring recent health scares. On Wednesday, Aug. 12, the Dodgers star took a frightening tumble down steps into the visitors’ dugout while trying to catch a foul pop-up in the eighth inning against the Kansas City Royals in Los Angeles’ eventual 4-2 win. The incident, which left Freeman, 36, feeling “sore,” occurred one day after his wife, Chelsea, opened up about a “really scary” medical experience that resulted in a 911 call and a recent hospital visit. It was honestly really scary, especially because Freddie was on the road.” Chelsea, 35, said her troponin levels were elevated, so she underwent “a heart CT, chest X-rays and an echo.” She shared: “I saw a cardiologist for a follow up today and he thinks it may have been pericarditis or myocarditis.” Chelsea added, “He’s having me do another echo next week to follow up... Thankfully I’m feeling much better now 🤍.” She first alerted her followers about the medical ordeal on Aug. 6. Freddie Freeman and his wife, Chelsea, at The 58th Annual CMA Awards. So grateful for the amazing EMTs, nurses, doctors & my family who took such good care of me,” she posted on her Instagram Story at the time. “A good reminder that health really is everything & if something feels off, getting checked out is always the right choice. Taking it easy for a few days 🤍,” Chelsea added. Freeman, who is in his fifth season with the Dodgers, added Wednesday he’s in “good spirits.” Freddie Freeman #5 of the Los Angeles Dodgers falls into the dugout on Aug. 12, 2026. Kneecaps are sore. Shoulder is sore. Hand sore. Wrist sore. I mean, I fell. (But) I’m in good spirits.” The 10-time MLB All-Star said he miscalculated the location of the dugout railing while following the ball. “I went to lean, like I was going to lean against the rail to catch the ball,” Freeman said, adding, “And obviously there was no rail... Luckily, I was tall, so I missed everything else.” Follow your favorite athletes on and off the field with PEOPLE’s free sports newsletter — sign up now!
