Happy Friday morning, Dawg Nation! We are only three weeks away from the season opener against Tennessee State. To whet your appetite, lets take a trip down memory lane that is especially relevant this week.

Former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels has sent a cease and desist letter to the university, saying it can no longer use his name, image, and likeness. This comes in the wake of new coach Lane Kiffin giving the number 5 that Daniels wore to cornerback D.J. Pickett, marking the first time the number 5 will have been worn since Daniels.

Clearly, Jayden Daniels wanted his jersey in the proverbial rafters, but he forgets that it has once been lifted there already. With a hat tip to X/Twitter user @chxnluh, Jalen Carter accomplished this feat on behalf of Daniels in the 2022 SEC Championship Game.

For those who may not remember or, let’s be honest, just enjoy reliving it, Jalen Carter sacked Daniels so emphatically during the Dawgs’ 50-30 win in the SEC Championship game that he picked up the former LSU QB with one arm while holding the number one in the air using his other. This is still one of the best and most fun things I’ve ever seen on a football field. If a defensive lineman lifts you to the rafters for a sack, your jersey cannot permanently go there. Thems the rules.

Also, this is such a weak look from Daniels whining about someone else wearing his jersey number. He didn’t spend his whole college career at the school. He didn’t have a transcendent championship season. And his dad isn’t the head coach. There really shouldn’t be a gripe about not having your jersey retired.

On the other hand, DGD David Pollock took to X/Twitter to commend the play of Dan Jackson, who wore number 47 just as Pollock did, on the final block during Ringo’s ‘Ship Six play.

I hope D.J. Pickett balls out for LSU in the number 5 jersey, and I thank Jayden Daniels for providing a reason to remember the insane Jalen Carter sack during the undefeated, national championship winning 2022 season.

Have a great Friday, and Go Dawgs!
