The FSU Seminoles got a huge commitment in their 2027 recruiting class when four-star athlete Za'Kari Johnson pledged in July. He plays quarterback and defensive back on the high school level, but will play the latter at Florida State.
It appears that FSU will have to keep an eye out for a few programs that are still trying to see if they can flip Johnson away. According to Zach Blostein of 247Sports, an ACC rival and an SEC school are still lurking around.
I am keeping an eye on the recruitment of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Cypress Bay four-star athlete Za'Kari Johnson this fall. The Florida State pledge who reclassified from 2028 up to the 2027 class this summer has not completely shut the door to other programs. Texas A&M is a school circling and Miami was involved to some extent before his commitment to FSU. I'll be closely tracking whether Johnson visits any other schools this season.
Johnson is the No. 344 prospect and the No. 21 athlete in 247Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-1, 196-pounder is also the No. 30 recruit in Florida.
The Seminoles will host Johnson for an official visit on Sept. 5, which is two days before their ACC opener against the SMU Mustangs. This will be a prime opportunity for head coach Mike Norvell and his staff to remind Johnson why he committed to Florida State, and a huge win would certainly help in that regard. He's a key commit for them, and they need to make sure they keep other schools at bay as much as possible.
For FSU, the main thing is to have a successful 2026 season because that's the only way that they can keep the class they currently have together. That will also help them circle back on some recruits they missed out on.
