Rodri leaves Manchester City today with a host of wonderful memories to look back on.
The midfielder departs the Blues for Barcelona having collected an astonishing 14 major trophies with the club.
The Spaniard enjoyed an impressive first season in Manchester - winning the Community Shield on his debut and then scoring the winner in our Carabao Cup final win against Aston Villa in March 2020.
He followed that up with a Premier League title success in 2020/21 and again in 2021/22, his goal on the final day against Steven Gerrard’s Villans in a remarkable comeback 3-2 success a true highlight of his time with the club.
As if that wasn’t enough, his 2022/23 and 2023/24 campaigns will truly live long in the memory.
He was a midfield colossus as we won the Treble in that first season, scoring an epic goal against Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals before potentially the most important goal in our history – the winner against Inter in Istanbul as we achieved our first-ever Champions League success.
Starting the 2023/24 campaign strong, Rodrigo had a sublime performance in midfield during our Super Cup win over Sevilla to help City win it for the first time in our history.
The midfield anchor added a FIFA Club World Cup winner’s medal to his tally after the 4-0 win over Fluminense in December 2023.
He helped us then follow it up by becoming the first club to win Four-in-a-Row in the Premier League.
He was a key cog in the wheel for Spain as they won Euro 2024 to top off another fantastic season and he went on to be named the 2024 Men’s Ballon d’Or winner, making him the first City player to receive the prestigious award.
Injuries blighted him in his final two seasons in the sky blue but he started in our victories in both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup before going on to lift the World Cup as captain of Spain in the summer of 2026 as well as earning the Player of the Tournament gong.
