German champions! FCB Women seal club's fifth league title They've done it! FC Bayern are double champions! One day after the men's team lifted the shield in a thrilling season finale, FC Bayern Women sealed the 2023 FLYERALARM Women's Bundesliga title on Sundya afternoon. And they did so in style with an 11-1 drubbing of Turbine Potsdam on the final day of the season, the biggest win in the club's history. The result means Alexander Straus' side finish the campaign on 59 points, two ahead of arch-rivals VfL Wolfsburg at the top. With the men's team and president Herbert Hainer in support at the FC Bayern Campus, the Reds flew out of the blocks and took an early lead through Saki Kumagai (4'). Lea Schüller (12'), an own goal by Anna Gerhardt (21'), a Jovana Damnjanović brace (24', 30'), Georgia Stanway and Lina Magull made it 7-0 already by half-time. Carolin Simon (50'), Kumagai (52'), Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir (75') and Schüller again (89') added to the scoreline in the second half to wrap up the club's record win. Viktoria Schwalm (64') scored the consolation goal for the visitors. Farewell to Danner and four players Before kick-off against Potsdam, Bayern said goodbye to the head of the women's department Karin Danner as well as four players who are leaving the club at the end of the season: Laura Benkarth, Ivana Rudelić, Kumagai and Emelyne Laurent. Kumagai and Damnjanović start Straus made two changes from the goalless draw at Bayer 04 Leverkusen last weekend, with Kumagai starting in place of Maximiliane Rall in defence and Damnjanović replacing Sydney Lohmann in attack. Strong start The hosts made it clear from the get-go that this game was only going one way. Captain Magull flicked on a corner from Simon in the fourth minute and Kumagai bundled it in at the far post in her final match for FCB. Just eight minutes later, top scorer Schüller headed in Simon's cross for her 10th goal of the season to make it 2-0. Five more goals before half-time Straus' side kept up the pace and extended their lead further, Gerhardt unluckily diverting the ball into her own net following a free-kick. Just 180 seconds later, Bayern were celebrating again as Damnjanović headed home from a corner before adding her second on the half-hour mark, getting away from her marker with a neat trick before shooting on the turn to make it 5-0. The Reds were far from done and Stanway got in on the act with a long-range shot. Then five minutes later, Magull converted a Simon cross to make it 7-0 at the break. New club record The second half began as the first ended, with another goal for FCB. Simon found the net in impressive style with a free-kick from a good 25 metres out. Two minutes later, Kumagai netted again from a corner to make it 9-0. Bayern were now just one goal away from the biggest margin of victory in the club's history (10-1 at Leverkusen in the 2018/19 season), but first Potsdam scored a consolation effort through Schwalm. But the record was equalled in the 75th minute, Viggósdóttir heading in from another corner. And it was left to Schüller to set a new one on the stroke of full time.
