MLB analyst Dan Clark highlighted Cubs CF Pete Crow-Armstrong’s ongoing slump at the plate in recent games by sharing a stat about his offense, noting that Armstrong has amassed only three hits in his last 32 plate appearances for Chicago.

Sharing his take on the stat on social media, Clark wrote on X, “Pete Crow-Armstrong’s slump is getting really ugly now.”

Armstrong went 0-for-4 in last night’s game against the Cardinals at Wrigley Field as the Cubs lost 4-8 to their intra-divisional rivals. The 24-year-old has been in constant discussion for the NL MVP honor this season and is neck-and-neck in the race with Dodgers superstar two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani.

While Ohtani has struggled since the All-Star break, PCA is now in a similar situation, even though many believe that, like the Japanese star, Armstrong will also bounce back from the slump.

Pete Crow-Armstrong and Shohei Ohtani Are Posting Nearly Identical Numbers at the Plate in 2026

Armstrong entered the NL MVP picture because of his consistent quality at-bats and strong offensive numbers. Beyond this metric, Ohtani’s temporary halt to pitching due to a left knee strain also helped the Cubs’ OF gain traction in the MVP race.

While Ohtani has yet to resume pitching, the Japanese star can certainly benefit from his Cubs counterpart’s offensive struggles. Both players are projected to produce identical numbers at the plate this year.

Armstrong has a .277 batting average, 27 home runs, 73 RBIs, and a .905 OPS. He is projected to hit 35 home runs and drive in 95 RBIs. Ohtani has a .290 batting average, 27 home runs, 75 RBIs, and a .933 OPS, and is projected to hit 35 home runs while driving in 98 RBIs.

It is safe to say that the NL MVP race is going down to the wire this season, and the ultimate winner will depend solely on how the voting takes place and which metrics are given the most importance.
