The San Francisco Giants defeated the Colorado Rockies, 7-1, in a game that saw their most runs scored in a game since July 29.
It's been nearly three weeks since the Giants' offense looked this good. Remember, this is a team that defeated the Milwaukee Brewers, 16-3, to improve to 46-62.
Even after this six-run win over the Rockies, San Francisco is just 51-72. Things haven't been easy for this squad, but wins like this are what it's all about.
Logan Webb delivered a six-inning gem while Drew Gilbert gave the team a massive boost at the plate. In total, the Giants finished with 10 hits and now have a chance to play for the series victory.
Gilbert drives in three runs in a three-hit game
Not only did Gilbert go 3-for-4 in the leadoff spot, but he also reached base one other time thanks to a walk.
Gilbert touched home twice, with one of those times being due to his home run. Even though San Francisco put up seven runs against the Rockies, that managed to be their only homer of the game.
Gilbert's blast was his sixth of the year and came with one out in the third inning. He is now up to 28 RBIs for the year in a game that saw the two batters to follow him, Rafael Devers and Bryce Eldridge, both add an RBI themselves.
Together, the Giants' top three batters in the lineup had five hits, five RBIs, and three runs. As a team, San Francisco only struck out five times and drew three walks. Gilbert now has 28 RBIs this year while Eldridge increased his season total to 31. Combined, they still have fewer than Devers, who now sits at 68.
Webb's stellar outing
There's nothing like having an ace carry the load, and that's exactly what Webb did in this one. Of the 80 pitches he threw, 57 were strikes, and he struck out a staggering seven batters without walking a single one.
Webb ended up going six full innings, allowing just four hits and one earned run in the process. Most importantly, he picked up the win, and is once again over. 500 with his 8-7 record.
Webb's ERA now sits at 3.50 after he made sure the Giants didn't drop another game to the only team below them in the National League West.
Now, all eyes are on Sunday's series finale, one that could give the Giants their first set of back-to-back wins since July 29-30.
