Alisson Becker has said he was impressed by the debuts of new Liverpool signings Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo against Como.
The defensive duo made their first appearances for the Reds during Liverpool's 2-0 win over the Serie A side at Anfield on Sunday.
Jacquet started the game alongside Virgil van Dijk in central defence and marked the occasion with a goal, turning in from Cody Gakpo's cross.
The Frenchman was replaced at half-time by Araujo, who hasjoined on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona. Araujo made four tackles during a commanding performance as Liverpool secured a clean sheet.
Reflecting on the debuts of the defenders in front of them, Alisson praised the pair and said Jacquet and Araujo can help Liverpool compete for trophies.
“Both of them played really, really well. Jeremy had a great first half, great on the ball, great defending as well, controlling the space in behind [and] in front of him as well. Great, great performance," he toldliverpoolfc.com.
“Ronald as well had a really good game in the second half… it’s really good to have a strong centre-back to help the team, in depth as well. That’s what we need if we want to compete for the trophies this season – that’s what we want, that’s the mentality of Liverpool players.
“And playing alongside Virgil [van Dijk], I think is a great thing for them as well, so I’m really happy for them. We’re going to need all the players [and] the boys did well.
