Hardik Pandya to KKR trade: Kris Srikkanth advises Kolkata Knight Riders to give up two key players in exchange for MI captain originally appeared on Cricket News. Add Cricket News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. KEY TAKEAWAYS:

Kris Srikkanth has urged Kolkata Knight Riders to give up Rinku Singh and Harshit Rana for Hardik Pandya. He valued acquiring the Mumbai Indians captain above holding onto the two stars for the 2027 IPL. Srikkanth separately advised MI against trading Pandya for Axar Patel or Travis Head.

Kris Srikkanth advises KKR to give up two key players in exchange for MI's captain The Hardik Pandya trade saga has become the defining storyline of the IPL 2027 off-season, and the game's biggest names are lining up to offer their verdicts. Former India captain Kris Srikkanth has now waded in, advising Kolkata Knight Riders to sacrifice two of their prized assets to land the Mumbai Indians captain. With Pandya firmly on the trading block, several franchises have been linked with the all-rounder, but KKR have emerged as genuine frontrunners following the retirement of their captain Ajinkya Rahane. The Knight Riders are in the market for a leader, and Pandya fits the bill. Srikkanth, however, believes such a marquee acquisition would not come cheap and has identified exactly which two players KKR should be willing to part with to get their man. MORE: Hardik Pandya transfer: MI captain ready to join KKR ahead of IPL 2027 but on one condition - Report Why Kris Srikkanth wants KKR to give up Rinku Singh and Harshit Rana Srikkanth's proposal centres on KKR sending both Rinku Singh and Harshit Rana, worth a combined 17 crore, to Mumbai Indians in exchange for Pandya. He argued the trade-off would be worth it for a franchise looking to rebuild around a new captain. Speaking on his YouTube channel Cheeky Cheeka, Srikkanth said, "Rinku Singh is a decent player, nothing extraordinary. Harshit Rana is a good bowler. But if Hardik is willing to join KKR, I would give up both of them." He acknowledged that losing Harshit would sting more than parting with Rinku but pointed to the pacer's recent form to justify the call. Srikkanth said, "They also have to rebuild their side. Rinku Singh won't be a great loss for them. Harshit Rana might be a huge loss for them. But Harshit also didn't have a great IPL last year. He was good only the year before that." The two players have been central figures for KKR. Harshit picked up 19 wickets in their title-winning run in 2024 before missing the entire 2026 season through injury, while Rinku, at the franchise since 2018, scored 295 runs at an average of 59 with a strike rate of almost 149 in the latest edition. MORE: Hardik Pandya trade: Which team will sign MI captain? Why Srikkanth told MI to avoid an Axar Patel or Travis Head trade Srikkanth also turned his attention to Mumbai Indians, cautioning them against alternative deals involving Pandya. He was firmly against a swap with Delhi Capitals for all-rounder Axar Patel, seeing little upside for the five-time champions. Srikkanth said, "MI shouldn't go for it. Why will they go for Axar Patel and not Prithvi Shaw or someone? There is no scope for that. Also, I wouldn't trade for Head if I were MI, as he doesn't fit with MI." His reasoning was that a like-for-like swap for a similar all-rounder, or for a top-order overseas batter in Travis Head, would not address Mumbai's needs. He felt neither a SunRisers Hyderabad package involving Nitish Kumar Reddy nor the Delhi option offered Mumbai genuine value. The context underlines the wider picture, with both MI and KKR having endured disappointing campaigns in IPL 2026, finishing ninth and seventh, respectively. Pandya himself endured a lean season, managing just 206 runs and four wickets in 10 matches, though his leadership and balance keep him a coveted figure. MORE: Revealed: Why Hardik Pandya's return to Gujarat Titans is impossible Why Srikkanth's KKR advice makes more sense than his caution to MI There is sound logic in Srikkanth urging KKR to pay a premium for Pandya, given their pressing need for a captain after Rahane's exit. A proven India all-rounder and leader is a rare asset, and for a side already rebuilding, surrendering a squad player in Rinku and an injury-hit Harshit may be a price worth paying. The harder sell is his advice to Mumbai. Pandya's underwhelming 2026 numbers mean MI could reasonably explore their options rather than simply hold firm, and dismissing both the Axar and Head possibilities outright feels premature this early in the window. Ultimately, Srikkanth has captured the central tension of this saga: that Pandya's value lies far more in his leadership and reputation than in his recent output, and every franchise involved must decide exactly how much that is worth.
