Heather McPhee settles all claims in lawsuit against NFLPA and others

Earlier this summer, former NFL Players Association general counsel Heather McPhee settled her wrongful discharge lawsuit against the union, without resolving the pending claims against the other defendants in the lawsuit. McPhee has now settled the entire case. Via ESPN, court filings submitted on Friday indicated that McPhee and the various defendants "have executed a final settlement agreement in this matter." The parties to the lawsuit asked the presiding judge to stay the case for 30 days while the conditions of the settlement are fulfilled. McPhee, a long-term employee of the NFLPA, was placed on leave last summer, following the resignation of executive director Lloyd Howell. She filed her lawsuit in December, and she was fired not long thereafter. She had sued the union, former executive director Lloyd Howell, general counsel Tom DePaso and Players Inc. president Matt Curtin after raising various concerns regarding union matters, including the strange decision to conceal from NFLPA membership a partial victory in a collusion grievance. While the terms weren't disclosed, the NFLPA's next annual report will likely contain information relating to any payment made to resolve to litigation.
