The first purchase made with a pro athlete's paycheck has, historically, generated some memorable stories. They've ranged from the lighthearted — offensive lineman Will Hernandez spending $4,500 on a high-end toilet — to the heartwarming, like Kansas City Royals prospect Brady Singer paying off his parents' debt. New Orleans Saints rookie Jordyn Tyson's story falls firmly into the latter category. When ESPN asked members of the 2026 NFL Draft class how they used their first professional paycheck, Tyson revealed that his father was one of his first priorities. “I sent my dad some money. I looked at his USAA account,” Tyson said. “I was like, let me give Pops some money. [I didn’t tell him]. When he saw me, he just gave me a hug.” Tyson also took care of a major purchase for himself. The Saints' first-round wide receiver said he secured a house in New Orleans after receiving his NFL money: “For myself, I bought a house. I’d say that was the big thing.” The Saints selected Tyson at pick No. 8 overall in April, making him one of the key pieces of the offense's future. Some choose to acquire exotic cars or other wild items, but Tyson's first spending decisions suggest that he's kept his family at the center of his transition and is planning for a long-term future with the Saints.
