Spain footballer Jenni Hermoso, the victim in the 2023 kissing scandal involving former top official Luis Rubiales, looks set to return to her homeland after leaving Mexican club Tigres.
The 36-year-old said a tearful farewell to Tigres in a video published by the club late on Saturday. Spanish media are reporting that Hermoso could join her former club Atlético Madrid.
She spent four years in Mexico at two clubs, meaning she has not played in the Spanish league since the scandal which rocked the end of the 2023 Women's World Cup.
Former Spanish football federation chief Rubiales kissed Hermoso on the mouth during the trophy presentation after Spain's women won the trophy in Sydney. The player said this happened without her consent.
Rubiales initially defended his actions but later resigned from his post. FIFA banned him for three years and a court convicted him of sexual assault, handing him a fine.
