Texas A&M's seventh preseason practice on Thursday afternoon provided even more insight into the progress several key players, including starting quarterback Marcel Reed, have made this fall, as the 2026 season opener vs. Missouri State on Saturday, Sept. 5, is just 23 days away.
When reflecting on the various moves third-year coach Mike Elko made before a record 10 players were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, including elevating WR coach Holmon Wiggins as the new offensive coordinator, promoting Lyle Hemphill as the new defensive coordinator, and adding 17 players from the transfer portal who have all looked the part since arriving in College Station.
On Tuesday, Wiggins and Hemphill spoke to the media for the first time, detailing their coaching philosophies, as Wiggins will call plays for the first time in his career, while Hemphill will serve as Mike Elko's right-hand man and continue to coach up the secondary and aid in fixing the remaining mechanical issues, especially the Aggies' rushing defense.
Over the last three practices, Northwestern transfer Edge Anto Saka, freshman running back KJ Edwards, and junior wide receiver Terry Bussey have consistently stood out among loaded rotations, while Bussey is more than likely competing for the No. 3 or 4 wide receiver spot.
Thanks to the beat writers in attendance at Texas A&M's seventh practice, here are the best highlights.
