His future is uncertain: Star wants to play for Liverpool

One star wants to play for Liverpool this upcoming season. His future, however, is incredibly uncertain.

Liverpool will kick their season off in a week's time. Despite that, we're really not clear on what their squad will look like. The Reds have been slow to make major changes and while the likes of Ronald Araujo, Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet have come in, they haven't necessarily replaced those who went out.

But on top of that, more may leave. Curtis Jones has a very unclear future ahead of him, with one year remaining on his contract, Inter eager to sign him, but no deal remotely close.

No one knows what's happening with Harvey Elliott, either, while there's a series of young players who may or may not be with Liverpool this year. And Liverpool are running out of time to deal with it all.

But one player who should be sticking around, despite links to Real Madrid and Manchester City, is Alexis Mac Allister. The Argentine does only have two years remaining on his deal and has been talked about as an exit for a while now, but the Athletic reports that he intends to remain.

They claim that Mac Allister's focus is entirely on Liverpool and establishing himself under Andoni Iraola. He's actually had less time to do the latter than anyone after an extended post-World Cup break.

It'll be interesting to see how he does, too. Mac Allister had a sub-par campaign where he looked nowhere near his industrious best, which has then been followed by a gruelling World Cup with Argentina.

Is he going to be able to recapture his best form on that back of that? We're not so sure but given the lack of investment in midfield, it's vital that Liverpool do all they can to get him back to that level.

In fact, it's arguably one of the most important jobs facing Iraola this season if Jones does end up leaving. The Reds' midfield looks light - and significantly lighter with Mac Allister performing below his best.

Him wanting to stay is undeniably a major boost, no question there, but it's just step one for Liverpool. Step two is making sure the real Mac Allister shows up this season.
